Governor Promises Legal Action
Governor Gavin Newsom confirmed that 300 members of the California National Guard are being sent to Oregon following orders from President Trump. He denounced the move as a federal overreach and pledged to file a lawsuit to block the deployment. Newsom said the administration is using California troops to circumvent a court order preventing Oregon’s own Guard from participating.
Judge Blocks Oregon Guard Mobilization
The deployment follows a ruling by U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut, who issued a temporary restraining order barring 200 Oregon Guard members from being sent to Portland. The court order, which remains in effect until at least October 18, cited constitutional concerns over the use of military forces in domestic law enforcement.
Troops Arrive, Federal Confirmation Pending
Officials in Oregon reported that more than 100 California Guard members arrived Saturday night, with additional forces expected. The Pentagon has not publicly confirmed the deployment, and local leaders said they received no official notice from federal authorities. The situation has intensified a dispute between state officials and the Trump administration regarding the scope of presidential authority over National Guard units outside their home states.
