Ruben Amorim criticised his Manchester United players for becoming “too comfortable” after they let a dominant position slip in a chaotic 3-3 draw against Tottenham.
United led for long periods after Bryan Mbeumo’s opener, but goals from Mathys Tel and Richarlison turned the game on its head before Matthijs de Ligt rescued a point with a 96th-minute header.
While the result extended United’s unbeaten run to five games, Amorim was frustrated with the complacency he saw once his team were ahead.
“We have a lot of problems, we are just at the beginning,” said Amorim. “We were comfortable in the game but I think we should do better, be more aggressive. The three points were there to take.
We felt too comfortable, and in one moment everything can change — that’s what happened today.”
The Portuguese coach also confirmed concerns over Benjamin Šeško, who limped off with a potential knee injury late on.
Spurs boss Thomas Frank, meanwhile, defended his substitutions after home fans booed when he replaced Xavi Simons with Tel in the 79th minute — a decision that paid off when Tel equalised minutes later.
“Sometimes you’re lucky,” Frank said. “But every decision is to win the game — and Tel did exactly that, he changed the momentum.”
Tottenham, who have not won a home league match since August, remain without a victory at their stadium this autumn. Frank, however, was upbeat:
“We were so close to winning. It was a good performance against a United team that’s in flow. We’re on the right path.”
