Democrats Target Director Over Firings
FBI Director Kash Patel was sharply criticized by Democratic lawmakers in a tense Senate session, accused of reshaping the bureau to serve partisan aims. Patel firmly rejected the charge, maintaining that the recent dismissals of top agents were tied to breaches of duty and performance issues rather than politics. He described the accusations as politically motivated attacks.
Epstein Documents and Kirk Investigation Under Scrutiny
Patel also faced grilling over his management of sensitive cases, including sealed Jeffrey Epstein files and the inquiry into the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Senators demanded answers on why certain records remain hidden and why an arrest was announced in the Kirk case before the suspect was cleared. Patel said confidentiality laws restrict what can be disclosed but stressed his intent was openness, conceding that his phrasing may have been too hasty.
Commitment to Stay in Role
Despite speculation about his future and questions over White House support, Patel declared he has no intention of leaving his position. He dismissed suggestions that he was operating under political influence or keeping an “enemies list,” framing the allegations as unfounded. Patel insisted he will continue leading the FBI and vowed to resist attempts to undermine his leadership.
