Juventus have dismissed head coach Igor Tudor following an eight-game winless streak across all competitions, the club confirmed on Monday.
“Juventus FC announces that it has today relieved Igor Tudor of his duties as coach of the men’s first team, along with his staff,” read a club statement, a day after their 1-0 defeat to Lazio. Massimo Brambilla, head coach of the club’s reserve side, will take over on an interim basis.
Tudor, appointed in March to replace Thiago Motta, was Juventus’s first foreign manager since Didier Deschamps in 2006-07. A former Juve defender, he helped the team finish fourth in Serie A last season and secure Champions League qualification.
However, after a strong start this campaign, Juve’s form collapsed — drawing five straight matches before losing three in a row to Como, Real Madrid, and Lazio.
“It’s a difficult period, and we’re all responsible,” Tudor said after Sunday’s loss.
The club’s poor run marks their worst start in decades, and this is the first time Juventus have sacked a manager before November since 1969.
Juve, who have failed to score in their last four matches, sit eighth in Serie A, six points behind leaders Napoli, ahead of Wednesday’s home clash with Udinese.
