New climate plans from more than 60 countries would cut global emissions by only 10% by 2035, far short of what’s needed to limit warming to 1.5C, a UN analysis found.
UN climate chief Simon Stiell said progress was too slow: “We have a serious need for more speed.” Major emitters, including China and the EU, have yet to finalise stronger pledges, while Donald Trump has vowed to pull the US from the Paris agreement again.
The findings come ahead of Cop30 in Brazil next month, where leaders will face pressure to deliver faster, deeper emissions cuts. Analysts warned that weak pledges from top polluters threaten global efforts to reach net zero and avoid dangerous climate impacts.
