Russian forces attacked Kyiv early Friday, killing four and injuring 27. Explosions damaged buildings and sparked fires across multiple districts.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said rescue teams could not retrieve two bodies trapped in the rubble. Emergency crews treated at least 27 wounded civilians. Nine people, including a pregnant woman, were hospitalized. Two children, ages seven and ten, also suffered injuries.
Officials urged residents to stay in shelters until air raid alerts ended. Authorities warned of potential power and water outages across the city.
Zelenskyy Condemns Civilian Targeting
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the assault a “deliberately calculated attack on civilians and infrastructure.” He reported Russia launched 430 drones and 18 missiles.
The attack struck at least 11 multi-story residential buildings. Debris ignited fires near medical facilities and inside nonresidential structures in Shevchenkivskyi and Holosiivskyi districts. Ukrainian air defenses activated to intercept incoming strikes.
Regional officials reported Russian attacks in surrounding areas, damaging critical infrastructure and homes. Six people suffered injuries, including a 55-year-old man hospitalized with thermal burns in Bila Tserkva.
Ukraine Holds Despite Russian Advances
Russian forces gained territory in southern Ukraine, forcing Ukrainian troops to retreat from several Zaporizhzhia villages. The Defense Ministry claimed control of settlements in Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv.
Analysts reported Russia’s siege of Pokrovsk advanced slowly. Elite drone operators and special forces deployed, but commanders spread resources thinly.
Ukraine continued defending positions, slowing Russian advances while civilians endured repeated strikes and rising casualties.
