People who stop using weight-loss injections regain lost weight in under two years, a major study shows.
The analysis found weight returned almost four times faster than with diet or exercise programmes.
Researchers reviewed 37 studies involving more than 9,300 participants.
The study was led by academics at the University of Oxford and published in the BMJ.
The drugs, known as GLP-1 agonists, mimic hormones that suppress appetite and promote fullness.
Participants lost an average of 8.3kg while taking medication.
After stopping treatment, they regained weight at about 0.4kg per month.
Most returned to their original weight within an average of 1.7 years.
Health benefits such as improved blood pressure and cholesterol also faded within 1.4 years.
Researchers said the findings reflect obesity being a chronic, relapsing condition.
Experts stressed the drugs are effective but not a short-term solution.
They emphasised long-term support, prevention, and lifestyle changes alongside medication.
