Celtic are moving quickly to appoint Wilfried Nancy as their new manager, with talks expected to intensify over the weekend. The Columbus Crew boss is the leading candidate to replace Brendan Rodgers, whose second spell in Glasgow ended acrimoniously in late October.
The Scottish champions have informed the MLS club of their intentions, and compensation is not expected to be an obstacle. Nancy is reportedly keen on the move, with Celtic hoping to have him in place before next weekend’s trip to St Mirren, which would end Martin O’Neill’s brief stint as caretaker.
Nancy, previously with Montreal, guided Columbus Crew to seventh in the MLS Eastern Conference this season before losing to FC Cincinnati in the playoffs.
While Kieran McKenna was initially viewed as the frontrunner, Celtic have not approached Ipswich Town, and McKenna’s wage and compensation demands were seen as too high. Robbie Keane and Kjetil Knutsen were also considered, but head of football operations Paul Tisdale has made Nancy his top choice.
