NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said NATO will strengthen Ukraine’s military and secure US and European commitments to deter Russian aggression. He called NATO’s support “unwavering” and growing. Rutte confirmed NATO plans funding to ensure a steady supply of lethal US weapons to Ukraine.
Rutte said US President Donald Trump confirmed America’s role in providing security guarantees. “We are working together — Ukraine, Europe, and the US — to ensure Putin never attacks Ukraine again,” he said.
Rutte added discussions about deploying foreign troops, intelligence sharing, and naval and air support continue, but officials have not finalized details.
Zelenskyy Demands Concrete Security Guarantees
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine needs guarantees to protect current and future generations. He emphasized security must shield Ukraine against further Russian attacks.
Zelenskyy stressed foreign troops, intelligence, and defense resources must coordinate effectively. He said leaders must ensure guarantees remain strong enough to deter Moscow.
Summit Talks Between Ukraine and Russia Stall
Trump tried to arrange a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin after separate meetings in Alaska and Washington, but Moscow rejected the summit.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Putin will meet only when the agenda is ready, which it is not.
Zelenskyy accused Russia of blocking leadership talks to end the war. “Ukraine is ready to negotiate productively. Russia must be pressured into diplomacy,” he said. He urged partners to enforce strong sanctions to compel Moscow to resolve the conflict.
